Pleasant Grove Ranked #4 In State

Sportsdate 9 – 30 – 2008

After a starting the season undefeated in their first five games, the Pleasant Grove Hawks find themselves ranked number 4 in Dave Campbell’s Texas Football latest class 3A poll. I am guessing that is the highest a Pleasant Grove football team has ever been ranked. Read the rest of this entry »

Sunday’s Decision: What to Watch at Noon

Tomorrow is an unusual Sunday because there isn’t a noon matchup that the committed fan cannot afford to miss. In week 1, the TB/NO game and the Jax/Ten game were must-see TV, but Brett Favre and Matt Ryan making their respective first starts with their new teams made 4 games I had to see… at the same time. Is Marion Carryin’ the Load

Let’s talk about Marion Barber. Throughout last year, all the fans were screaming for Barber to be the feature back that gets 20-25 carries per game. But of course, we, the intellectual fans, know that whenever you talk about a runner taking on that kind of load, you have to ask yourself a few basic questions. Like this: If he get’s 20-25 carries per game… Read the rest of this entry »

Don’t Believe the “Analysts”

I keep hearing the analysts say that the Cowboys’ defense is suspect. I keep hearing that they’re not playing well. But that doesn’t match what I’m seeing when I watch them. Last night against a very good offense, the Cowboys’ defense was dominant. The analysts will point to the 250 yards passing given up by the Cowboys’ defense. What they don’t tell you is that 117 of those yards came on short passes against a prevent defense when the Cowboys already had the game won. The truth is that, with 5:34 left in the game, the Green Bay offense had 233 yards of total offense and nine points. Nine points! No matter how you look at it, that is defensive success against a very good offensive team. (And don’t forget that this very poor defense held the Pack to only four 3rd-down conversions, and sacked Rodgers 5 times.) Read the rest of this entry »

Shouldn’t we be ragging on Cutler?

With everyone still talking about Hochuli’s mistake in the Denver game, but no one is talking about Jay Cutler’s mistake. We all know that if Hochuli hadn’t blown the call, Denver would’ve lost. But why would Denver have lost? Because Cutler fumbled with no one around him. He was all alone with the victory in his throwing hand, any dropped it. If Hochuli hadn’t picked it up for him, then Denver would’ve lost because of Cutler, and we’d all be talking about that now, wouldn’t we? Read the rest of this entry »
