A GM Gem

Sportsdate 6 – 24 – 2008

It was a fun evening at the Dob tonight. Seeing former Texas High ace David Farren return to the mound at George Dobson field was a hoot. I wish the turnout had been better, but that is a post for another day. He went four innings in a 6 to 3 Texarkana Gunslingers win over the Bay Area Toros. Read the rest of this entry »

Streak Ends, Fun Begins

Sportsdate 6 – 22 – 2008

Sure I showed up at George Dobson Field on a night when the Texarkana Gunslingers ended their six game winning streak, but the fun of minor league baseball was in full bloom. There was much to enjoy about tonight’s 2-1 loss to the Corpus Christi Beach Dawgs Read the rest of this entry »

The Bloggers Triumph in NFL Trivia Matchup

Scott Campisi and the rest of Curly and The Lambeaus Veteran TXKSports blogger and resident NFL expert Scott Campisi led a nepotisticly (mal)formed group into the first annual NFL Trivia Bowl Challenge at the La Crosse Inn on Thursday night and came away with a 14-inch trophy and the admiration of the literally tens of people that chose to attend. Scott’s dad, Joel Campisi, sealed the win with his out-of-left-field answer to the “all-time scoring leader for the Cleveland Browns” when he played the dreaded “Lou Groza” card. Alcoa, who advanced to the finals with a win over Walgreen, had no answer for the elder Campisi and his knowledge of the greatest generation’s gridiron greats. The addition of Jeff Akin to Team Campisi, playing under the assumed name of “Curly and the Lambeaus”, gave them the edge they needed in their first round matchup versus KTEV; a hotly contested battle focused more on the “buzzer” than NFL Trivia. As I write this recap of the night’s events, I am reminded that my main contribution to the team consisted of sitting amongst these three NFL aficionados and trying not to get in their way. With Scott being my brother, Joel being my dad and Jeff being my brother-in-law, I am proud to say that if it wasn’t for me . . . . there would have only been three people on the team. Go Steve!

I do want to thank the Faith, Love and Hope Youth Corporation for what they are doing in our community and their organization of this event in conjunction with their annual NFL Hometown Weekend. They intend to expand the contest next year and promise to have more teams and even more difficult questions. If you have an organization that would be interested in competing next year and helping out the youth in our area, then you can contact Rose Warfield-McGill at Faith Love and Hope on the Arkansas side.

Fed Ex’s Empty Delivery

Sportsdate 6 – 18 – 2008

I had my doubts when the PGA decided to create the FedEx Cup a couple of years back. When Tiger decided to go into hiberation this week, I was left wondering who will care this year. Read the rest of this entry »

Blogger’s Block

Sportsdate 6 – 14 – 2008

I apologize to regular readers for taking some time off from the blog. The last two weeks have been a sports over load and I find I have limited creative jucies. Somewhere between attending the State Baseball Tournament, an IRL race, and an Arena Football game one would think that something worth blogging about would have popped into my mind. Digging In Again With The Gunslingers

Sportsdate 6 – 1 – 2008

One week after last Sunday night’s home opener I returned for my third trip to see our local independent minor league baseball team the Texarkana Gunslingers at George Dobson field. The crowd was smaller, the results were similar as the our team lost 8 to 4, but the new has certainly not worn off Texarkana’s latest professional sports team. Read the rest of this entry »
