A ‘Sport’ Like No Other

With 5 teams in the Top 10, The SEC is yet again leading the way in the NCAA. I am not talking about Basketball, Baseball or Track. The “sport” that I witnessed occurs Friday nights and the results are in the hands of judges. Read the rest of this entry »

Friday Night With Young Mr. Wright

Sportsdate 1 – 25 – 2008

Weather precipitated moving the family trip to the circus up to the 4:15 matinee, so I got to attend tonight’s game pitting Pittsburgh High School vs. Pleasant Grove. Both arrived with 3 and 0 district records. Pittsburgh left town still undefeated in district play after a 80 to 73 victory. Read the rest of this entry »

Slow Week Before The Circus

Sportsdate 1 – 24 -2008

We are still here. Your local sports blog has not gone anywhere, it is that week where the NFL has gone into hiding building up to the Super Bowl. Locally, it is quiet until Friday night when Pleasant Grove finds out if it has anything for Pittsburgh High School and it’s star Kendall Wright. Read the rest of this entry »

Who’s Gonna Win… And Why: Conference Championships

Scott's Picks for this weeks games. Add your own or comment on what you readSan Diego at New England: The Chargers are a 14 point dog in the AFC Championship, but there is something I find quite intriguing about this matchup. First of all, the biggest problem the Colts had with the Chargers was that they couldn’t rush the passer with Dwight Freeney on IR. Coincidentally, the Pats’ best pass rusher is on IR now. If OT Marcus McNeill can handle Adalius Thomas’ pass rush by himself, then the backs and tight ends can help on the the other side and give Rivers plenty of time to throw. Secondly, the Pats’ run D hasn’t impressed me this year. I know they’re ranked 10th against the run, but that’s only because nobody runs the ball when they’re down 20 points. If the Chargers can keep the score close, LaDainian Tomlinson can really hurt the Pats. But that puts the game on the shoulders of the San Diego defense. Can they keep the Pats from scoring too many points too early in the game? Can they keep it in LT’s hands? I’m not so sure they can. They played well against the Colts’ offense, which is an impressive feat in itself, and maybe they can hold their own against the Pats, but unlike the Colts, the Pats have all their weapons healthy, and if the San Diego defense focuses on Moss, Stallworth, Welker, Watson, and Maroney can tear them up. I just think the Pats have too many talented players for the Chargers defense to keep up with. I’ll take the Pats. Read the rest of this entry »

PG 56 LE 49

Sportsdate 1 – 15 – 2008

In the end, the Pleasant Grove student body chanted “LE, you ain’t what you used to be,” but to me, it is PG who has changed. The success of the Pleasant Grove football team has spilled over onto the basketball court. Read the rest of this entry »

Wade and Tony

Sportsdate 1 – 13 – 2008

Call it the curse of the 13 wins on January 13th. Both the Cowboys and Colts who won 13 regular season games lost today to teams they should have beaten. Folks in Dallas will be calling for Wade Phillips’ scalp, and fans in Indy will be begging Tony Dungy to stay. Read the rest of this entry »
