Where’s Levi?

With the start of the toughest competition on earth just moments away, I thought I’d take advantage of the lull that is dominating the sports scene these days and speak my piece for those select few that care.  If you were prompted by my opening statement to prepare a mental list of what you consider to be the “toughest competitions”, then indulge me a few moments and feel free to opine below in the space provided.
This year’s iteration of the Tour de France will once again feature 21 separate races over a 23 day period.  They will average over 100 miles a day for three weeks, with some of the courses taking them over the steepest climbs in the Alps.  The heart-rate of these racers will average 160 to 170 beats-per-minute for four to seven hours every day.  For three weeks.  The longest stage this year is 232k which is around 140 miles for you Americans.  On a brief side note to my second-grade teacher Mrs. Wood, I’d like to express my skepticism over her claims in the 1970’s that declared America’s impending acceptance of the metric system.  I’ll believe America is switching over to the metric system when I see the NFL Network featuring grown men in shiny shorts chasing a round ball around and faking injuries.  But, I digress; vive le Tour.

Catching up on the golf news…….

I feel the need to open up my Txk Sport’s Blog “career” with a “run on, and on, and on, and on, sentence……so here goes…….(forgive the “ellipses”…..I call em’ periods…..but the critics on the golf swing forums call them “ellipses”…..LOL…….it’s MY internet posting “style” and enables me to type what I “think” and FAST…hehe )

Well, after much consternation and aggravation (and in order to author a post BEFORE Chuck Zach…;))) caused by an unwillingness to admit defeat in regards to “logging on” and posting (aka mule-like stubborness) I am FINALLY going to attempt to author an intelligent “column” in regards to the great game of golf. This will be difficult as I was NOT an english major in college and I have the same tendency to “ramble” with my fingers over a keyboard that I do when flappin’ my gums. I would like to ask for forgiveness for any grammatical/spelling/intelligence errors that I might make in this, or any other, “column” I might author. Especially from any readers who did receive proper instruction/education from UT or UA as it’s apparant from previous responses on this site that they do know everything…..(JOKE…jk…;))…..including, most probably, the nuances of the language we inherited from our former landlords across the big pond.

Ok, now with the formalities attended to let’s get on to a discussion in regards to the subject I was asked to comment upon on this site……..G O L F……..

Subject Numero Uno………The 3 Major Championships already conducted……..

2007 Tour de France – “Vino in Paris” or “Levi adds a fourth ‘L’ to the American Legacy”

The 2007 Tour de France kicks off Saturday morning, in of all places London, and it just could possibly be the most wide-open version of the race since a young kid from Austin set the two-wheeled world on it’s ear in 1999.
Alexander Vinokourov is widely held as the favorite for this year’s yellow jersey, but his Kazakhstan-based Team Astana may be one of the weakest in the peloton.  This should leave him dangerously exposed on the three mountain-top finishes in this year’s line-up and could potentially open up the race to someone with a strong team and a smart director.

Tiger-Proofed and Sub-Par-Poofed

Is it just me, but in an effort to Tiger proof Agusta National, has the membership made any chance of shooting below par disappear as well?

Disco’s NOT Dead!

The reports of Team Discovery’s demise seem to have been highly exaggerated as the boys in blue have re-vamped their squad after their dismal first season sans Lance and have catapulted a virtual unknown, Alberto Contador, to the top of the Pro Tour standings.  In their first ten scheduled races for the ‘07 season, the team has won three tours, including the prestigious Paris-Nice and the Amgen Tour Of California, and has given notice to the rest of the peloton that “Lance’s Old Team” is going to be more of a problem this year than they have ever been. In the past, the whole cycling world knew that everything that “Team Disco” did during the course of the year, was merely a step towards their ultimate goal of yet another victory lap on the Champs d’ Elysses for the greatest two-wheeler in the history of American Cycling.

Martin or Harvick . . . Green or Yellow!

If you were watching the final lap of the Daytona 500, then you certainly have an opinion about whether or not they should have pulled the Yellow Flag out and frozen the field when the wreck started.  NASCAR clearly admits that they would have thrown the yellow if it had not been the final lap.  That is enough for me.  They say they do so to protect the drivers.  If you look at the replay of the final lap, you’ll see Gilliland, who left the track to avoid the carnage, driving back onto the track and directly into traffic from the grass.  The yellow wasn’t out, so why shouldn’t he?  He is coming at a 45% angle into a pack of cars traveling at 180 miles an hour.  If they were typing to preserve the safety of our beloved drivers, then they clearly Read the rest of this entry »
