Disappointing Rangers
Sportsdate 7 – 1 – 2009
No this is not going to be another of those the heat is here so the Rangers are folding columns. I will leave that to the sports commentators in the Metroplex. This is more personal. I wrote a piece a couple of months back about going to see the Rangers. I praised the franchise for finally getting it. Much like on the baseball side of operations, the business side takes a step forward and two steps back in the ever going Texas Rangers two step. Read the rest of this entry »

Best Of Baseball Times
Sportsdate 5 – 26 – 2009
Texarkana Gunslingers sweep weekend series against the Coastal Kingfish. Texas High eliminates Mesquite Poteet in dramatic fashion. Pleasant Grove literally is forced to battle it’s way through a weekend playoff series against district rival Pittsburg, and the Maud Cardinals elminate the state’s number 1 ranked Class A team Price Carlile.
Saint Louis claims the title of baseball town America, but Texarkana may soon wish to challenge that. There is a decent chance that two city teams could make the state tournament, and Maud from just up the road could be joining them.
In recent years Liberty Eylau, Hooks, and Trinity Christain have represented the city in state title games. As good as the football is here in Texarkana, I will always argue that this is a baseball town.
If you are not enjoying the best of baseball times here, you must not get baseball. That is too bad because Texarkana is getting the best that the diamond has to offer.

Internet Returns, But Gunslingers Will Not Tonight
Sportsdate 5 – 14 – 2009
My apologies to any readers left out there for not having posted anything for over two weeks. My home internet connection has been nonexistent for the last ten days. The good folks at my local phone company have finally figured out the problem. It may have simply been a case of giving the world a break from one more blogger for a couple of weeks. That would be at least one public service being provided by my phone company.
I was all jazzed to attend this evening’s opening night for the Texarkana Gunslingers at Spring Lake Park. The morning rains have proved to be more than the already soaked field at the park could handle. So if the rain ever stops the local nine will return to action sometime this weekend against last year’s CBL Champion, the Bay Area Toros.
I know for some the prospect of independent league baseball is not very alluring in our age of electronic communication, but after no internet for ten days I have gotten use to a more simple life without the stream of constant information and ideas. I hope you the readers of this blog have not.

Baseball and Buffet
Sportsdate April 19, 2009
It was only two days, but it seemed like a long weekend. Friday night I took in a Rangers baseball game at the Ballpark In Arlington. Saturday night, the child bride and I went to Pizza Hut Park in Frisco to enjoy another evening with Jimmy Buffet. Jimmy didn’t disappoint, the Rangers always seem to, but the venues still make any trip to them enjoyable. Read the rest of this entry »

The Public Arena
Sportsdate 4 – 12 – 2009
I know most people spent Easter Sunday wondering if Tiger and Phil really would make it all the way back. Instead “The Masters” had their party spoiled by a former Argentine caddie. An Angel decended upon Amen corner, and it had to boil the blue blood of some of the older Masters. I never tuned in today. Instead I day dreamed of a day when Texarkana will have a real sports facility to call home. I think that maybe I have finally figured out how. Read the rest of this entry »

The Anti-Gordon
Sportsdate 4 – 5 – 2009
For about a dozen years I have been attending NASCAR events. I came to the sport at a time when Jeff Gordon was dominating. During the last dozen years I have seen Gordon race in person about two dozen times in Cup races, and in Busch / Nationwide events. The one thing I have come to count on is that if I am in attendence, Jeff will not be be headed to victory lane. Read the rest of this entry »
